CES 2020: Samsung Unveils T7 Touch Portable SSDs with Built-in Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung is showing off some really cool technology at the ongoing CES 2020 show in Las Vegas. Including the Ballie robot, artificial humans, truly bezel-less TVs, and more.

One more addition to that list is your latest external storage device: a T7 Touch Portable Solid State Drive (SSD) – which the company claims combines a sleek, compact design with fast transfer speeds, based on the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard.

What makes the new devices really stand out from other products on the market is a new biometric authentication system. It is expected to improve data protection with an additional hardware security measure in the form of a built-in fingerprint sensor.

According to the company, the T7 Touch brings Samsung's first built-in fingerprint scanner to SSDs, as well as password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption.

In addition to the new feature that made it a "CES 2020 Innovation Award" winner, the T7 is also said to be 94 percent faster than previous-generation drives with read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/ s and write speeds of 1,000 MB/s.

The unit comes with a cable USB Type C to C and a USB Type C to A cable, and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Android operating systems. It also offers versatility on the go, thanks to its stylish titanium cases in black and silver finishes.

Samsung offers the T7 SSDs in three different storage options, including 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. They will be available from this month in more than 30 countries around the world.

The prices will be 120, 230 and 400 dollars, depending on the US market.

The company also said that the T7 laptop models are expected to launch in the second quarter of this year 2020.
