El Samsung Galaxy S6 It has established itself as one of the benchmark smartphones in the Android universe and, especially, as a flagship of the Samsung brand, thanks to its commitment to design and high performance. In this extensive and detailed analysis, we delve into all aspects related to battery life, autonomy, power, resource management, and user experience, to offer a complete and up-to-date overview based on the most rigorous testing and comparisons with the leading specialized media outlets.
Premium design: materials, ergonomics and first impressions
Samsung opted for a complete redesign of its Galaxy S6. Leaving behind years of plastic bodies, the S6 incorporates a sleeker structure. aluminum unibody with protection of Gorilla Glass 4 glass both front and back. The combination of materials provides a premium feel in hand, although such a finish comes at the cost of a surface that's prone to fingerprints and somewhat slippery. The dimensions of 143,4 x 70,5 x 6,8 mm and its weight of 138 grams make it light and comfortable to handle. The volume buttons are on the left side and the power button on the right. The bottom part houses the 3,5 mm jack, the speaker, and the microUSB port, while the top part houses the infrared port, useful for controlling electronic devices.
On the back, the 16 MP camera stands out, accompanied by the LED flash and the heart rate sensor. The camera bump protrudes noticeably from the casing, raising some concern about possible scratches, although the glass is reinforced. The front houses the 5 MP camera, the light and proximity sensors in the top frame, and the Home button with a fingerprint reader at the bottom, a design that has evolved to offer more efficient unlocking by simply placing your finger on it, leaving behind the sliding system of the previous model.
Samsung sacrificed the microSD slot, the removable battery and water resistance to achieve this compact and elegant body, a decision that generated debate but was offset by other features such as fast, wireless charging and internal storage of up to 128 GB.
SuperAMOLED QHD display: picture quality and visual experience
The Galaxy S6's display is one of the most spectacular of its generation. With 5,1 inches, technology Super AMOLED and a 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD resolution (577 dpi), provides intense colours, pure blacks and bright whites. The screen-to-body ratio is 70,8%, and the maximum brightness reaches up to 600 nits, making it easy to read even in sunlight. Factory calibration allows you to choose between several display modes: Adaptive Display (adjusts brightness and contrast based on the environment), AMOLED Cinema (optimizes video content), AMOLED Photo (for image viewing), and Basic (maximizes power consumption).
The viewing angle is excellent and high resolution or 4K content is enjoyed with a audiovisual reproduction difficult to match. The differences with Full HD panels are subtle for the average user, but the most demanding users will notice greater sharpness. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, scratch and shock resistant.
Hardware and power: Exynos 7420, LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.0 storage
The Galaxy S6 marked a turning point by leaving aside Qualcomm processors and betting on a Exynos 7420 self-made Built on 14nm technology for lower power consumption and improved efficiency. It's an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2,1GHz for demanding tasks and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1,5GHz for low-power processes. Power management and performance put the S6 on par with the industry's most advanced handsets, and in synthetic tests like Antutu Benchmark, it outperforms the 65.000-70.000 points in high-performance mode, staying ahead of most of its direct competitors at launch.
This SoC is accompanied by 3 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 80% faster than regular DDR3, and UFS 2.0 internal storage, which allows for much faster data transfer, very similar to what SSD hard drives offer in computers. This translates into a smooth multitasking and extremely short app launch times. Users can choose between 32, 64, or 128 GB models, although it's important to choose carefully since microSD expansion isn't available.
Everyday performance: browsing, demanding apps, and games
The S6 demonstrates its power in both benchmarks and everyday use. Browsing in Chrome and the built-in browser is fast and lag-free, multitasking with several open apps is smooth, and applications such as video editors, photo editors, and productivity suites run completely smoothly. In the gaming department, demanding titles like Asphalt 8: Airborne run with maximum graphical quality and speed, thanks to the Mali-T760 GPU, with hardly any overheating or noticeable frame drops. 4K UHD video playback It is clear and stable.
Within the daily experience, it is worth highlighting the almost instantaneous opening of the camera, intelligent RAM management, and the ability to switch between multiple tasks without slowing down the system. The fingerprint sensor's performance is also noteworthy for its speed and accuracy, making it easy to unlock and access mobile payments, web services, and protected apps.
Battery, autonomy and energy saving modes
Capacity and real autonomy data
La 2550 mAh battery This is one of the most debated aspects of the Samsung Galaxy S6. While it is optimized by the efficiency of the Exynos 7420 and the Super AMOLED panel, it does not stand out compared to other smartphones with superior capacities. In practical tests, the S6 easily withstands a full day of intensive use, including browsing, messaging, apps and some multimedia playback. Specialized tests (ComputerHoy, Movilzona, Xataka) place it at around 7 hours and 10-20 minutes of continuous active screen time, coming very close to the S5 but with a more powerful panel and hardware.
In moderate use, avoiding maximum brightness and without excessive multitasking, battery life can exceed a day and a half. Activating the Power saving mode, which reduces performance, limits secondary processes and lowers brightness, the battery life can be extended to nearly two days, although sacrificing functionality and fluidity. ultra saving mode It turns the screen grayscale and restricts access to essential apps, doubling the battery life in emergency situations.
Fast wireless charging
If there is a differential aspect it is the fast charging technology Adaptive Fast Charging. The S6 can recharge its battery from zero to 100% in just 70-80 minutes, reaching a 40-50% charge in just over 20 minutes (ideal for emergencies). A full charge using a standard charger can take up to 2 hours, though most users will appreciate the speed with the native adapter. Wireless charging, compatible with Qi and PMA standards, adds convenience, though the total recharge time increases (between 110 and 130 minutes to 100%).
Advanced management and tips to optimize autonomy
Battery life depends largely on user habits. Frequent use of high-performance games, high-definition streaming, high brightness, or background apps takes more toll on the battery than messaging or light browsing. Smart manager Samsung's app allows you to monitor battery status, identify apps with unusual power consumption, and activate customized power saving modes. Users can also adjust account synchronization, automatic brightness, and notifications, extending daily battery life by a few hours.
Samsung interface and software: TouchWiz and extra features
The TouchWiz customization layer has evolved in this generation to be lighter, cleaner, and more visually appealing, embracing Android's Material Design aesthetic. The number of pre-installed apps has been reduced, although some proprietary utilities remain, such as S Health for physical activity control, S Voice as a voice assistant and direct access to the store Galaxy Apps. The system of Smart manager It allows you to control storage, RAM usage, battery and security from a single panel, making it easier for the user to quickly optimize the device.
The notifications menu is intuitive and has customizable shortcuts. The S6 supports split-screen (multi-window) for managing multiple apps at once, although this feature is of limited use on a 5,1-inch screen. Flipboard Briefing is integrated as a news and information sidebar, and there's integration with Microsoft apps (OneDrive, Skype, OneNote), although these can be disabled if the user prefers.
Sensors and biometrics: fingerprint and health readers
The Samsung Galaxy S6's fingerprint reader is faster and more reliable than its predecessor, allowing you to unlock your device or authenticate payments and web access by simply placing your finger on the Home button. It also integrates heart rate sensor, step counter, and blood oxygen saturation sensor, accessible from S Health for users interested in tracking their fitness and health. The fingerprint reader supports multiple fingerprints and can act as a quick access to the camera or to mute incoming calls.
Multimedia: audio, video and user experience
The Samsung Galaxy S6 offers an outstanding multimedia experience. The speaker It's located on the bottom bezel, and while the quality is good and the volume is loud, it lacks rich bass compared to models that rely on front-facing stereo speakers. The music player includes smart volume adjustment and equalization features (Sound Alive, Adapt Sound), although it doesn't automatically download song covers or lyrics. For video playback, it supports most high-definition files, including 4K, although AC3/DTS codecs aren't fully supported if native players are used.
Camera: high-level photography and video
The main chamber of 16 MP (f / 1.9) with optical stabilization and a Sony IMX240 sensor is one of the S6's strong points. It stands out especially for its fast focus (0,3 second shooting delay), immediate access from the Home button and superior performance in low-light conditions. It incorporates advanced modes such as real-time HDR, selective focus, panoramic, slow motion, fast motion, 360º virtual shooting and Pro mode with manual control of ISO, exposure and white balance. The 5 MP front camera (f/1.9) offers wide angle, HDR and quality results for selfies and video calls.
Video recording reaches UHD 4K resolution (3840x2160p) at 30fps, with the option of slow motion at 240fps in 720p. The high-resolution display is especially useful when viewing captured photos and videos, and dynamic range processing achieves sharp, low-noise images even without a flash.
Connectivity and sensors: complete experience
The Galaxy S6 is compatible with networks 4G LTE Cat.6, Wi-Fi ac (2,4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, GPS+Glonass, infrared, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, barometer, and light sensor. Its connectivity makes it a valid option for both users seeking download speeds and those looking to take advantage of home automation or remote control features. Dual Wi-Fi+mobile data management with Download Booster allows you to download large files by combining both connections for greater speed.
Comparison with competitors and market position
Compared to other high-end handsets of the time, such as the HTC One M9, LG G4, Sony Xperia Z5, or the iPhone 6/6 Plus, the Galaxy S6 stands out for its balance of design, display, power, and camera. Benchmarks place it above most in overall and graphics performance, and while the battery isn't the largest on the market, the fast-charging system gives it a practical advantage that other models don't offer. The elimination of the microSD card and removable battery was a controversial decision, but the focus on premium materials, ultra-fast wireless charging, and UFS 2.0 storage more than made up for those sacrifices.
Models, price and available versions
The Galaxy S6 is available in several colors (Pearl White, Sapphire Black, Platinum Gold and Topaz Blue) and in versions of 32, 64 and 128 GBIts high price at launch was in line with its focus on design, cutting-edge hardware, and premium experience, but it remains competitive with equivalent models from other brands. Samsung also launched the S6 Edge variant, with a curved display, and higher-end models like the S6 Edge+, with a larger screen and RAM.

Galaxy S6 after a few weeks
After a few weeks with a Galaxy S6, I have to say that it is a great phone... that I would not buy... that's right, the one I have has been through the operator, but after a few weeks of use I am clear that I would not buy a terminal like this…great screen…???…yes, of course, but you have to set it to minimum brightness so it doesn't eat up the battery…power…???…also, but you have to set it to saving mode for the same reason …premium materials, but you have to carry it in a case because it is very slippery, so much glass is what it has…in short, look at me and don't touch me.
In response to Jose Jorge…I have managed to double the duration with two applications…Grenify, which puts the applications into hibernation, so you don't have to uninstall anything…and Go Power Saver, which greatly optimizes consumption.
battery life
Who guarantees that this battery will last for many years? What is the average useful life of this battery, besides that it is smaller than that of the S4 and the S5?
RE: Samsung Galaxy S6 review: Battery and performance. Part 1
It is scary to invest so much in such an expensive Smartphone and then the battery does not have as much useful life and without being able to replace it. That is, if the battery is damaged, the cell phone is damaged and you lose the money.
RE: Samsung Galaxy S6 review: Battery and performance. Part 1
I have doubts about this Samsung S6 smartphone, more than anything because of the battery, since it is not removable like previous models, what is the useful life of the battery, since it comes compact with the smartphone, and if the battery is damaged, the phone is no longer useful. BECAUSE I HAVE HAD S4 AND S5 AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY IN BOTH

Hey.
I just bought a second-hand S6 and the battery life wasn't that bad.
Can you tell me some advice to be able to lengthen it a bit?

My experience with less than 9 months since purchase:
I have had 4 Galaxy S phones and absolutely all of them have turned out bad. All had to go through the SAT at least twice, with less than a year of life.
Now I have the S6 Edge+ and it's exactly the same junk. Very expensive, but a real junk.
From my experience (I don't believe in coincidences) it's a waste of money when there are cheaper and, surely, better alternatives.
In addition, Samsung "spends" a lot on the "small" customers and their claims.
battery
I have been very disappointed with the battery life. For the rest it goes very well, but I am not satisfied, much less with the duration.
I'll change my terminal soon.

Mr. Samsung wanted to ask if charging my cell phone for more hours is in danger of overcharging the battery.
What happens is that I charge it at night and just disconnect it the next day. Thank you very much, I await your prompt response.
I have some doubts with my S6
Hello!
I bought my cell phone for Christmas and there are some things that don't convince me, like the battery that lasts very little or the internet that only comes out "H or H+" never 3G or 4G and to use snapchat for example it doesn't work for me , it does not charge me only with wifi. If anyone knows why it could be?
Thank you very much.
