Running out of storage space on your android? (updated)

android apps storage

We receive inquiries every day about a common problem. And it is that if a good day, you are installing an application or copying some files to your Android phone. And it goes and this message appears «running out of storage space«.

You have an easy problem to solve, how? With this Android guide, you can free up space on the internal memory. Copying applications and games to the Micro SD card, if you have it pre-installed of course.

Running out of storage space on your android? (updated)

How to solve

To do this, we go to “all applications”, then to “settings” and there we select “applications”, after this we click on “manage applications” and the list of applications and games that we have installed will appear.

All that remains is to click on each of the applications and we will see the information of the application. If it is possible to move the application to the SD card, we will see that the «Move to SD card» button is white, meaning that it can be selected and therefore, we can move that application or game to the SD Card. If the button appears shaded, with a grayish color, we will not be able to move the application.

Why can't we move that app? there are some system applications, necessary for its proper functioning. and therefore, if they are moved to the SD card, they will stop working normally. They will show constant error codes, so the stability of the mobile phone will be affected and its daily use will be difficult.

Freeing up memory storage space

The internal memory of the mobile phone is much faster and more accessible, for this reason, some applications can only be installed there, access to the SD card is only possible when the system has started up normally and when it loads the necessary files to be able to access the external card, in a nutshell, applications installed on the SD card are not accessible as soon as the phone is turned on, those on the internal memory, yes.

Carrying out this process with each of the applications or games, we will free up space in the main memory of our Android device and we will not constantly receive a message with the storage space exhausted.

We also tell you that there is a free application for move android apps to your sd card easily.

This application is called App2sd and it makes our lives easier when it comes to moving apps to the SD card since it shows us a list of applications that can be moved.

    I do not have memory
Hello, I have a question that no one can solve me. I have a Galaxy Ace with a single application installed (what's App) and an sd with an envelope where all my photos are. However, I don't have any memory and now it won't even let me enter the application unless I keep clearing "cache". Having no more applications than What's App, I can't transfer any to the SD card. Do you have any solution for my case? I've thought about formatting it but I'll have to download the App again and I don't know what else I can lose. The other option is to change your mobile because it has always had rather little memory...
    Thank you very much

To free internal memory you must apply # * 9900 # click on the second option and that's it. Large part of the internal memory is already open released.

Apps in SD, clean cache and no space in RAM
Hello! I have a Motorola xt316. Internal memory is almost nil! 🙁 Thanks to a tutorial, I was able to move most of the apps to the SD card, and forced new apps to be installed on SD as well. Also, I'm root and I've removed the pre-installed apps I didn't use. Currently, in the internal memory I only have Google apps, such as gmail, Google maps or Play store, and the widgets, only 6. Clean cache and browsing history with Clean master. And I'm out of memory! I no longer know where to approach that phone (what a piece of garbage), I have almost nothing in internal memory, and after all the cleaning, it fills up and leaves me with no space.
What else could I do? 😕

I have installed the app2sd, and nothing only some applications you can move but the memory full message continues. The galaxy is a scam, expensive and you can only download limited applications. About 3 weeks ago I got a message that says "There is little space left, the system storage is getting smaller" I didn't pay attention to it, it went away by itself. Until today that appeared to me & my sister put "Stop" to some apps, & she didn't remove the icon or the msg, I didn't pay attention to her, I tried to open my Instagram & it closes by itself, & I can't open anything because it close. What does my cell phone have? I read that it said I had to “Root it” but I don't know how to do that & I don't want to. I don't have many apps, only 16 & 12 are in SD. Now it tells me that I have 00.0 KB of phone memory (or nothing!) & I had 120MB :/
What I can do? I can't do anything that this post says, because everything is in the SD.

It is not simply about moving applications to the sdcard or applying smart cleaner or android assistant the real problem is that even if they use all those applications just by browsing the internet, fb, sending sms etc android 2.3.6 memory is consumed internal and nothing releases it with any application and you have to be restoring the factory to release that memory but the vicious circle is repeated and the internal memory is eaten again that we do not know why

My solution (since whatsapp always asked me to update, it didn't fit) is to uninstall each application and reinstall it, when they ask for updates (the updates are already coming, when you reinstall). That prevents you from needing memory to archive an update.

Later, the other solution found was to delete the email accounts (which had a lot of information in the cache) and add them back. That has freed up a ton of space for me. Currently, and for the moment, I have not had memory problems with the phone again.

I had the same problem. The internal memory was practically full and in reality I hardly had applications saved in it. It wouldn't even let me update the ones already installed. I know that it is not the solution you are looking for, but as I have read I have seen that there are not many others, I have restored the factory data of the phone. Clearly the applications I had have been deleted and the sms tray too, but now I'm doing great. I have downloaded the applications that I used the most and even so I have half of the free internal memory. It can be a drastic solution, but it is very effective.

I had the same problem. I hardly had any free space on the internal memory and I didn't have many applications either. At all times I had the icon of insufficient space and I could not even update my applications. Seeing that there is not much solution to this problem, I have directly reset the phone's factory data. Now the phone is like new, I have half of the free memory and I have re-downloaded the applications that I used the most before and still have a lot of free space. I imagine that it is not the solution you are looking for, but I think there are not many more.

And with the monthly messages the same, and that I have come to have many applications and many SMS, but I have been deleting them and I have almost had to eliminate everything. I have downloaded applications to try to change the storage and it does not work 😥
Any workaround other than throwing away the phone?
    Greetings, thanks

hello, I would like to know why on my tablet the option to move it to the sd card appears and it only appears with 2GB of space and below it appears extsd card and it comes out with 14.86 Gb of free space and it is actually 16GB. So my question is, if I have so much space on extsd why can't I use it? or why it does not give me the option to use it as a storage medium. Thanks

guys… root! that is the solution, a large part of the applications that consume the internal memory space belong to those preloaded from the factory... become root and use "root pro uninstaller" that can be downloaded from the android blackmart and thus eliminate it from the root …

It turns out that when I checked it I had 145 mb used out of 181 so I had 36 mb left but I was using the cel and suddenly the message appears that there is little space left and it tells me that I have 11 mb remaining. This is weird because I haven't downloaded anything. What do I do?? Can someone help me figure out what happened?

As you will see I have only installed 3 that have gone to the cell phone. The problem is that it won't let me download anything that goes to the phone because the message appears that there is little space left. The apps that I download are not very big, but the ones that take up the most space are the ones that came pre-installed on the phone and some of them I don't even use but they don't let me uninstall them... I need more space, what do I do???

It is normal, when you pass the applications to the SD card, until the mobile does not start completely and load the data from the SD card, the applications do not appear there and there are some that must be in the phone's memory to work well, in the SD they don't go.

And second, that app they recommend cannot be moved to the SD or twitter, or Google+, or GMAIL... etc. So it is useless… Can someone help me with those 2 points? Thanks

I just entered this forum and I am surprised that they say incomplete things. The mentioned application App2d moves applications to the Sd memory but NOT ALL, some small ones that do not need mobile memory to be stable. If what you want is to move almost all the applications (such as facebook) you have to root the device. once rooted with Titanium Backup you can move the applications you want and do many other things. Any other questions you have do not hesitate to write me.

If I really want someone to answer how to transfer the app from the phone to the sd because when you install a game, program, etc. on the PC, it is installed on the disk, not on the ram, for example. on other phones you can on android not be because you don't also need at least 20 mb of space in the memory of the phone because otherwise it's slow
