WhatsApp dark mode is now available on Android and iOS

After launching the Dark Mode via WhatsApp beta channel Last January, it finally started rolling out the long-awaited feature in the stable version on both Android and iOS.

As expected, the Dark Theme will reduce eyestrain in low-light environments, save battery life, and look stylish.

Android 10 and iOS 13 users can use dark mode by enabling it in their phone settings, while Android 9 and later users can enable it from WhatsApp settings by going to Chats > Theme and then selecting "Dark."

You can get it as a free update for Android and iPhone

In an official blog post on Tuesday, Facebook said the company focused on two key areas while developing the feature.

According to WhatsApp, the company has put a lot of thought into how dark mode works. The company says that the UI elements are designed in such a way that it greatly reduces eyestrain in both iOS 13 and Android 9.

Dark mode for WhatsApp brings a new look to a familiar experience. It is designed to reduce eyestrain in low-light environments. And we hope it helps avoid those awkward moments when your phone lights up the room.

When designing dark mode, we spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two particular areas:

Readability: When choosing colors, we wanted to minimize eye strain and use colors closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android, respectively.

Hierarchy of Information: We wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. We did this using color and other design elements to make sure the most important information stands out.

Second, there is an "Information Hierarchy" which the company says will help users easily focus their attention on each screen.

The new Dark Mode works throughout the app, including the entire Settings page and internal chats, including dark bubbles that were previously leaked. It also comes with new "Solid Color" wallpapers that can be used with the dark theme.

The change was first released last month in the 2.20.31 beta, and it comes with six solid color options, including Dark Brown, Dark Navy, Dark Olive, Dark Purple, and Dark Velvet. They can be accessed in Settings > Chats > Wallpaper > Dark color.

As always, the app remains free for all users and you can get the latest updates from the App Store and Google Play. Give it a try and let us know what you think of the update in the comments section below.
